Class 7, FINAL PREPARATION: Choosing a JavaScript programming track

In this assignment, I view and participate in the tutorials on Khan Academy and Code Academy (Learnstreet isn't a working website anymore) to learn the basics of Javascript. Both Khan Academy and Code Academy were easy to follow and understand, but Khan offered a little more hand-holding and may be useful for people who have never done any coding. Personally, I found Code Academy to be better, as it allowed me to follow the instructions at my own pace without having to watch how-to videos.

Here are some screenshots of me viewing the differences between Java and Javascript:

In the following shots, I follow the Khan Academy tutorial to make some basic shapes using Javascript:

Drawing rectangles - the numbers dictate the position of the rectangle, as well as the height and width

Drawing another rectangle

Two rectangles and two ellipses

Adding a line

Making changes to the shapes that comprise the face

A "crazy face"
In the remaining screenshots, I follow the Code Academy tutorial:

Writing my name in Javascript

Using Javascript to find the length of my name

Making an interactive box

Using console.log to display a message

Using if/else statements with console.log messages

Using if/else statements with console.log messages

Using if/else statements with interactive messages

More if/else

Modulos (testing divisibility) and if/else statements

Using Javascript to find substrings of an entry

Using console.log to display substrings of each entry

Adding variables to Javascript

Using variables with other Javascript functions, such as console.log and substring

Changing the value of variables

The course conclusion - an if/else statement with console.log message
