Class 4, Assignment 8

Here, I am visiting some other virtual worlds in Meshmoon that I hadn't visited before...

This is "Cara's iED World". It is actually under water - you can see a bulldozer picking up sand.

This is the Kizhi 3D world. The buildings are Russian themed - here is a view of the ocean.

This is the Robot Lab world - in this world, the arm that you see moves around and appears to be picking things up.

Class 4, Assignment 4

Here I am following iED on both my Youtube and Twitter accounts:

Class 4, Assignment 3

Here are some of my favorite iED videos from the iED Youtube page.

First, this is how to embed multiple Youtube videos into a blog:

First, the HTML for the YouTube video can be copied from the "Embed" tab
Here, the code can be pasted into the blog. Multiple videos can be added to the same post.

MIDTERM #6

In this midterm exercise, I work with image layers in GIMP, as well as create a GIF animation using several different rotating layers.

First Part:

Here is the original "Tux" image I started with

Here, I am creating a new, blank image in GIMP

I have created a layer for inserting text (my name)

Here, I have created an additional white filled layer, and will adjust the transparency so the text shows through

In this shot, I have created another layer, and have copied the tux.gif image onto the layer

I have removed the slightly transparent layer, and all that is left is Tux and the text layer.

Here is the PNG file exported from GIMP!
In the second part, I use gimp to create a rotating, animated GIF:

Here, I am adding a text circle to a new image file
The text circle has been created, and I am copying it
Here is the text circle in a new layer

Using the rotate tool, I have rotated the tool 45 degrees

Here is the rotated text circle

I have repeated the rotation 3 times in different layers, adding 10 degrees to each rotation

Now that I have 3 different rotations, I can export the GIMP file to a GIF with animation that is in a constant loop
Here is the looping GIF!
This is a midterm exercise in which I work with image layers in GIMP, as well as create a GIF animation using several different rotating layers. It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. MIDTERM #5

This midterm assignment focuses on taking an existing JPG image and converting it to some different formats in GIMP.

In the first part, I take a JPG and convert it to a Progressive JPG:

Here is the original image

It is now open in GIMP and ready for editing

Here, I have selected the "Export" option, and will be exporting the image to another JPG file called "midterm5a.jpg"

Here are the advanced options for exporting a JPG. As you can see, I have checked the "Progressive" option for exporting the JPG

Here is the Progressive JPG file

The second portion of the assignment focuses on taking the JPG file and converting it to an Interlaced PNG:

Here, the JPG is open again in GIMP

The export window is open and the image format is selected as PNG

Here are the advanced export options - interlacing has been selected

Here is the interlaced PNG!

ENHANCING MY 3D VIRTUAL WORLD WITH A 2D GRAPHICS TOOL

In this assignment, I use gimp to add some 2D effects to the screenshot I took of my avatar in one of Meshmoon's 3D worlds.

Here is the original screenshot of my avatar in a 3D world.

I now have the shot open in GIMP. For my first edit, I have used the fill tool to change my avatar's clothing to a leopard print. Also, his skin color has been changed from a grayish color to bright white.

Here is my best attempt to draw a basketball. I used the ellipse select tool to outline a ball, then I filled it using the fill tool. I used the pencil to draw lines.

In this shot, I have drawn a chair for my avatar to sit down in after playing basketball. I used the pencil and fill tools to draw the chair.

Here is a cloud I have drawn in the sky. I used the pencil to draw an outline, and the fill tool to fill in the white.

Here is the final result of my GIMP editing!
